Independence Day
A day to celebrate the United States of America has arrived again. It's a day to remember that this country was made so we could be free to worship, to speak, to bear arms, to pursue happiness. We've been given a remarkable treasure - a nation where it was intended that everyone had dignity, opportunity, and options. It's a nation where the government could be our servant rather than an oppressive master, because of the startlingly effective idea of divided powers.
Lately, sadly, we've been trying to close off our freedoms because of the intimidation of particular political interests. If you believe certain things, your diversity isn't celebrated - it's doxed, fired, and lambasted before the world. Political interests vilify opponents with Orwellian twists of language: the word racist is employed to describe those who believe Dr. King was right when he called for judging people based on character rather than skin color.
We can choose, like many before us, to suffer losses to preserve liberty for ourselves and those who come after us. We've found before that the rewards far outweigh the losses when we stand up to evil. As wrong as we have been at times, we have found that to be true so far. Lord, please let us find and enjoy the truth of that again.
Happy Independence Day!
